This is the main page of Thomas Paine's poignant classic of freedom, Common Sense. I got to thinking about this pamphlet the other day and the important things spoken inside... and wondered to myself if any American under the age of forty could even begin to comprehend the valuable and priceless meanings within... and sadly, I doubted it.
Today so many Americans take so many things for granted, believing that it was just somehow handed to them on a plate and they can gorge themselves on it, without ever giving forethought to how they have it or how it even got onto their plates.
The saddest realization is that even back then he was the voice for many Americans, particularly since most Americans have an IQ of 98, and while that doesn't mean you can't be patriotic if you're not genius, it does mean that comprehension of certain things does elude you, i.e. : How many citizens now (comparatively speaking) because of their IQ or other determining factors, are allowing this remarkable writing, along with our freedoms... to go by the forgotten wayside?
A month before 9/11 I had written a diatribe on my very first blog about how much it frightened me to think of how completely apathetic Americans had become, but now, with this BULLSHIT still raging... these denizens are even worse. I warned back then, as I will again, that trouble happens when good people stand by and do nothing...
Well, trouble is happening right now and those who take it all for granted will wake up one of these days and wonder where the hell it went and in their lazy tenure will bemoan in question as to whom is going to bring it back.
As the Wicked Witch of the West said, "What a world... what a world."
I for one do not relish what this country will be like post-bullshitpandemic, but it's coming and like it or not, we're ALL going to have to deal with it and you who sat on your proverbial asses touting 'stay home stay safe'... remember... YOU brought it on.
Finally, when the day comes when everyone's freedoms have vanished and we have to watch/think/do whatever Big Brother wants... then all your placard brandishing/catch-phrase bloviating will have done nothing more than demonstrate to you how YOU allowed your freedoms to be taken away.
