Sometimes I'm dumbfounded...

This is John Williams, perhaps thee greatest composer of our time. I once heard him say that he wished he could write classical music. Well, I find that rather absurd since he's been doing not but writing classical music since he first came on the scene back in the late 50's, early 60's when he was scoring TV shows.

I've listened to classical music all my life, so I'm well versed with Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Listz... and I enjoy listening to them for their music, but Mr. Williams seems to forget is that all these men, his predecessors, were ALL playing for the 'theater' as well. Their scores and musical fancies were written for the stage, the theater, in some performing arts extravaganza. Mozart, the most well known of classical composers, would have died of starvation had it not been for his work in the theater.

So why Mr. Williams would ever believe that he doesn't write classical music is, really, beyond the scope of my comprehension. In my humble opinion, he's written some of the most beautiful and emotional classical music ever, and that's coming from a woman who loves Mozart.

I double-dog dare you to play the following pieces, with your eyes closed, and tell me (if you could do so without knowing), which of these is classical composer and which is not...

And this thread is not meant as a denigration to any of the other wondrous composers of my time, like Horner, Zimmer and Barry... I simply meant to show that Mr. Williams thinks of men like Mozart in too lofty a position, since they were men, like him, who knew how to write music and write it well.

All I know is that when Mr. Williams passes away this house shall be in mourning.
