I just called the gas company about a leak I smell in the air, coming from my neighbor's house, about mercaptan, the scent they use to make people aware of a 'natural' gas leak. I can smell that like I'm a bomb sniffing dog...
She was asking the normal questions and I told her it wasn't an emergency and I don't think the neighbor even knows about it, but as with one of our old houses, there was a gas line leak that eked the smell up through the ground. They came and fixed it. I even reported such a thing again, because when my husband and I took a walk, down in our old neighborhood, I smelled it again, reported the address and sure enough, the next day, there they were, fixing the leak.
As I stated above, I was on the phone with this woman, who, surprisingly, did NOT know what mercaptan was, working for the GAS company...
And in her series of questions she starts asking me if anyone has had covid... I said no. Then she asked if anyone has had a fever... I said, rather loudly, "Oh my god." and hung up.
What a FUCKING STUPID world we live in!
