I watched something this afternoon on Goodwill, an organization I've never given to, per say, but one that I donated objects to and have purchased many things from.
The CEO makes close to a million dollars, which seems par in this greedy asswiping world... but what shocked me to sickness was that some of the branches pay their retarded workers .22 an hour. Yes... .22 an hour. Sure, they have their excuses up their asses as to the reasoning behind this raping of the workers, as do ALL business people... but it still comes down to the fuckwit bosses making a gazillion times more than their highest paid workers.
I was just thinking about how everything is out of control and wondered what could fix it... well, I realized what it was... that all prices revert back to the 1950's. Don't think it could be done? Of course it could, but then you'd hear someone say, no, because it costs more to do this or to get that or so on and so forth... but I'm talking if EVERYTHING came down in price- from raw materials to electricity and so on. CEO's would have to relinquish their outrageous salaries and things like insurance would also have to come down. Prices of homes, people wages... everything take a giant step backwards in order that everyone could live. That's how simple it would be. A loaf of bread would cost .14 and seeing a doctor would be 5 bucks. We'd all make a lot less, but if we could afford a lot more, wouldn't it be worth it?
Sometimes I really do wonder how I can ever make it in a world rife with greed, avarice and ignorance, because it's just far too hard on me and my senses. When it is going to stop? When is someone going to shout enough... and the greed reign will be over? Come September 6th, when the government pulls the plug on that extra money they've been doling out, you know, for the shit storm THEY created... how many more people will be homeless, feeling helpless and forgotten? You think Kensington in Philly looks bad now, just wait. And if not after the 6th, imagine what will happen after Oct 1st, when the mortgages begin to fail...
While crying over this earlier, I said something pertinent to my husband, something I never realized until just tonight. In the most wondrous book ever written: A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, when Scrooge is continually plagued by images of a man dying and no one caring one iota about the loss, he finally begs the apparition to show him some tenderness in connection with this man's death... and what does the Ghost of Christmas Future show him? Bob Cratchit mourning over the death of Tiny Tim. Up until tonight (and I've read this book hundreds of times), I've never understood the implications of this... which, are simple... If only Ebenezer would have helped his employee Bob financially, by giving him the raises he deserved, Bob would have been able to take Tim to a doctor to see that his polio was curable and that Tim would not die. Even Ebenezer doesn't get it... If only he had done the right thing in regards to his employee, he could have saved not only Tim's life, but his own...
If only...
I don't know where this country is going to wind up by Christmas of this year, 2021, but I know it will be one of the bleakest I've ever lived through and I've lived through sixty two of them now...
Will this insidious greed train stop? Be thwarted? Curtailed? Will all the repugnant Scrooges out there have an ethereal visitation by their Marley counterparts and change their catastrophic ways? Will mankind learn?
I guess all I can say to that is...
If only.
